Violence at Howe Community Park Leaves 4 People Shot in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Sacramento authorities are investigating a shooting that unfolded Saturday evening at Howe Park in Sacramento at the moment officers were clearing a large unauthorized gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals.

What Led to the Shooting

Deputies were first called to the park on Howe Avenue just after half past six in the evening after receiving reports of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Shortly after, a second call came in describing an alleged brawl breaking out at Howe Park.

An overhead unit searched from above but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. However, deputies found that hundreds of people had packed into the park without permission.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Law enforcement personnel Howe Community Park shooting 2026 set about removing people from the park by surrounding the park and broadcasting over loudspeakers telling the crowd to clear out. Nearly 15 minutes were given for people to comply.

Just as the crowd began to move that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition rang out. The shots sent hundreds fleeing. Deputies at once began locating gunshot victims.

Four Gunshot Victims

In total, four shooting victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. Those injured — comprising three men and one woman all reportedly in their 20s — were taken to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Doctors and nurses confirmed that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one sustained moderate wounds, and one person's injuries were considered minor. According to authorities, each of the four victims was stable.

Metro Fire Sacramento provided support and assisted with medical triage those who had been shot before they were taken to the hospital.

Physical Evidence

The bulk of the shooting appears to have taken place along the Cottage Way corridor alongside the local Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Crime scene investigators discovered additional spent rounds on Cottage Way. Bullet holes were observed in the iron fence alongside the Home Depot store. These findings pointed to that a shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The Home Depot was put under lockdown during the incident. CSI units alongside detectives kept processing evidence well into the night.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Information obtained through scanner monitoring established that a vehicle identified as a Kia had been stopped in the Solano County area. Four people were stopped and detained. Law enforcement units were en route to collect those detained to collect the individuals for formal questioning. Video that was reviewed established that two individuals had fired weapons.
